Best Cameras for Filming Videos
"What camera should I buy" is such a hard question to answer because it really depends on your budget and what kind of video work you're doing. Here are all the cameras I use and recommend though.
Sony ZV-1
This is best budget level, small, on-the-go camera I’d recommend someone wanting to vlog, be discrete, and make sure I always have an option at the ready. It films in 4K, can shoot in sLog, and has a great flip out screen.
Canon EOS R
This is my main vlogging or on the go camera for filming and also what I use for photography. If uses the new RF mount, but I just use the $199 control ring adapter to put my EF lenses on it. The face tracking, cropped 4K image, and Canon colors make this a great camera for filming yourself for YouTube or elsewhere.
Canon C200
I bought a used C200 in mid-2019 to upgrade to 4K from the C100 Mark II below. This is my main camera for filming my clients and my YouTube videos. It is a bit overkill if you aren’t doing professional video work for others though. Having built-in ND filters, XLR audio inputs, and a lot of recording options makes this my go to camera.
Canon C100 Mark II
This has been my main camera since January 2015 and I own two of them. They’re used for all of my client shoots and most of my YouTube videos. The 4K sensor inside downscales to beautiful 1080p footage.
GoPro Hero 8 Black
Useful for more than action sports, I use the GoPro for time-lapses, attaching to the inside or outside of cars, and putting cameras in other impossible to mount places.
